Horizon

Horizon is a two-story residence perched high on the Malibu hillside, where the coastline and sky shape the experience of the home. The Horizon Malibu hillside residence reinterprets a steep and complex site through a contemporary architectural approach—stacking volumes, opening views, and creating a seamless flow between interior space and the dramatic landscape beyond.

The design is organized as three interlocking volumes connected by a warm, slatted wood entry element that softens the transition from the street to the private world inside. On the lower level, an open plan pulls the living, dining, and kitchen spaces toward the horizon, allowing ocean light and shifting coastal atmospherics to animate the interior throughout the day.

Above, the private spaces step back into the topography, introducing terraces that frame long views across Malibu’s canyons and coastline. Material choices remain restrained—glass, natural wood, stone—providing a quiet counterpoint to the movement of sky, color, and light outside.

Horizon reflects Bittoni Architects’ ongoing work in Malibu and coastal Southern California: a synthesis of terrain, atmosphere, and contemporary architectural clarity, designed to elevate everyday living through connection to place.
