Historic Venice Bungalow Remodel in Los Angeles
The Bay Street Residence is a radical remodel of a modest beach bungalow originally built in 1913 and relocated to its current site in 1920, just blocks from the Pacific Ocean. The exterior maintains the home’s original street presence, preserving its familiar charm within the Venice neighborhood’s evolving architectural landscape.
Connection to the Site + Rear Addition
Inside, the home is fully reimagined to create a seamless connection between every interior space and the rear yard. A new two-story addition at the back of the property introduces a master suite and private deck on the upper level. Below, the expanded footprint forms a terraced dining and living area that opens directly to the outdoors, enhancing natural light and extending the usable living space.
Interior Transformation
The interior renovation brings a clean, contemporary sensibility to the historic structure. Open flow, improved sightlines, and enlarged openings unify the living, kitchen, and outdoor areas. The result is a home that retains its original character while embracing a modern lifestyle centered on light, openness, and outdoor connection.
The Bay Street Residence demonstrates how thoughtful design can honor historic architecture while transforming it into a warm, modern, and livable coastal home.
