Common Melrose
Common Melrose is a Los Angeles co-living housing project located at the intersection of Melrose and Highland. The design creates two duplex buildings that appear as one unified form. This helps mediate the transition between nearby single-family homes and larger commercial buildings.
Communal Ground Floor
The entire first level is devoted to shared spaces. A kitchen, dining room, and living area support group activities. Large sliding doors open to a shared landscape and extend the communal space outdoors.
Private Second Floor
The upper level is intentionally solid to reduce noise from Melrose Avenue. Deep recesses carve out private balconies for each bedroom, allowing light in while protecting privacy.
Roof Deck
A shared roof deck provides additional common space. It allows residents to enjoy the local climate and adds to the sense of community.
Common Melrose demonstrates how thoughtful Los Angeles co-living housing can blend communal living, privacy, and modern urban design.
